( Mostly relegated to what exists in the Underworld - definitely no real connection to the living and definitely not the Internet in all its glory like she's heard about, but better than these communication devices that stick to an even more limited amount of connection.

( the nickname feels apt for someone so caring. it's not like red's used to it. the afterlife is, of course, not a place of warmth and caring ordinarily despite whatever version it is, but especially not when it's a high school and especially not when she's hades' guard dog. )

...superheroes are real where you're from? Cause I've only ever heard of 'em in the fictional variety. ( they've got gods, and once upon a time, there was hercules so also, half gods with super strength, but no one would call demigods superheroes anymore. )

[There's clanging aka chaos in the background as Kamala hunts for a decent teapot and herbs. God help them all. She never breaks her story time since it is a nice distraction.] Okay so it's more like a series of podcasts called "Big Me, Little Me" with Scott Lang. He's Ant-Man and does like most of the interviews. There are people who met superheroes who wrote books and gave interviews for podcasts too, but Ant-Man is the huge one lately.

Backstory: there's this evil alien named Thanos who invaded our planet twice. The Avengers, Earth's Mightiest Heroes, came together during his first invasion. Ant-Man wasn't there the first time except he kind of was because of time travel. Cool, right?

( Red lifts her eyebrows with a little smile at all the sounds as she curls up on herself like the very fearsome Cerberus that she is - kinda. )

So not only are superheroes a thing where you're from but also time travel and aliens? Shit. That's a lot. I got a feeling I'm gonna be asking for a lot of stories from you, sunshine. Alright tho lets back it up, cause I gotta know.

Ant-Man doesn't sound all that impressive, but obviously he's a superhero so he is? Does he command a colony of ants or what? Cause actually that would be mildly terrifying depending on the size of the colony.

[There's slightly less crashing going on so safe to assume she's found a teapot at least.] Oh the name is totally underselling him. Ant-Man can control ants which is surprisingly useful from what he tells us. He can also shrink to do stealth stuff and get super huge if he needs to give a big beatdown. He saved like three Avengers from being brushed by a building. So cool. And! He's a dad too! His daughter sounds really nice. Totally supports his superhero career.

That's honestly so wild to hear about them being so ingrained into society they have their own podcasts and people know all about their lives and family. But yeah that's cooler than only being able to control ants.

( All she really knows about superheroes is secondhand knowledge of movies and comic books ) Isn't like anonymity important to 'em or is it not a big issue?

So non-issue for most of them. Only Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, and Daredevil have secret identities in America. Then there's the Red Daggers over in Pakistan. Oh! There is that one guy with the cool all-white outfit who basically runs from Europe to Egypt. Weird territory choice, but okay.

Well, shit. That's wild. So you were just living in this world where there are so many villains and crime and shit that it needs so many superheroes? Or do you feel like relatively safe? Cause gotta say, evil alien invading twice seems like a Lot already.

I mean mostly I do feel safe. Sure once every like two to three years someone tries to end the world, but that's what the superheroes are for! People like Daredevil mostly fight gentrification. Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man mostly just keep shady government agencies from oppressing people or some guy with cool tech from like blowing up a building or something. You know how that goes.

[You can practically hear the stars in her eyes as she gushes about this hero.] And there's of course Captain Marvel! She's so amazing and powerful that we'll always be safe. During the last invasion she literally destroyed this huge mothership by just flying through it! How can you not feel safe when someone that powerful is on your side?! Ugh! I love her so much. She's so cool. I would literally die for her and her sparkly fists.

( Red doesn't know what it's like to have that much faith in a person especially one she's never met. Don't they make mistakes? Don't they fuck up? Don't they let people down or fail sometimes? Still she doesn't want to break Sunshine's clear joy and belief so she doesn't say anything for the moment.

Well, shit, the way you put it, it seems like they're really somethin'. I don't know that I've ever had that much faith in anybody.

But y'know. I also don't have superheroes where I was from. ( Not in the Underworld and not in the living one either as far as she heard. A long pause. ) They don't ever fuck up or anything?
